The team behind NabiTokki
Vicky Oh-Whitesell
Co-Founder, Administration, Teacher Support
Vicky Oh-Whitesell is a Korean-American mother, wife and daughter currently residing in Brooklyn, NY. She had a desire to start NabiTokki after her second child was born and she had been through too many hurdles of trying to teach them the Korean language and culture. Without many resources available, and having a hard time providing home-schooling lessons to her two children, she and a couple of other moms thought it would be a good idea to offer a school setting to help other families that are facing similar struggles. Vicky understands how much it means to parents for their children to learn and retain the essence of Korea through food, culture, language and arts and hopes to make that happen through NabiTokki.
Eunjoo Feaster
Co-Founder, Administration, teacher support
Eunjoo grew up in a few different countries before settling down in Brooklyn, NY where she is currently raising her two wonderful children.
With a couple of other fellow Korean American moms, she started NabiTokki to give our young children access to not just language acquisition but also to the amazing Korean culture and community right here in Brooklyn!
We hope to instill in our children pride for their Korean heritage.
Jiye Kim
Co-Founder, LEAD TEACHER
Coming from Seoul to Singapore to New York, Jiye Kim identifies herself as a third cultural kid, a.k.a. TCK. She has spent her life trying to identify herself as a Korean among different cultures. Especially living in New York, she knows the importances of understanding cultural differences. For this reason she wanted to start a platform where younger Brooklyn-Korean generations can learn about their heritage and culture where they can bond together.
When her son started Pre-K, she provided "Arts and Crafts in Korean" private group lessons for her son and his friends. When she traveled back to Korea, she taught "Arts and Crafts in English". She chooses Arts and Crafts, music, and movements as teaching mediums so that kids will learn Korean through play with their creative minds.
Jiye has lived in Brooklyn since 2007 with her husband and their child. She is very excited to provide a bridge between Korean and American cultural gaps through NabiTokki. She believes that NabiTokki will not only teach Korean but also spread the love "정" across Brooklyn.
